After a leaker puts XDefiant delay down to chasing COD, the game’s producer can’t resist responding with a ‘major eye roll’-

Ubisoft’s upcoming shooter XDefiant was at one stage scheduled to be released in summer 2023. The date was pushed back to October, before a public test saw yet another delay to an unspecified future launch date. The game did remain in Ubisoft’s Q3 2024 earnings report, however, indicating the publisher expected it to release before March 31, 2024.

Well, with a week to go, that’s not looking likely, and a report from Insider Gaming claims to have the goods on why. It alleges the game has missed “dozens” of internal milestones and quotes an internal source as saying “the neverending hunt to chase COD and add pointless stuff always breaks the current build.”

This may well raise eyebrows given that, delays aside, reception to XDefiant’s test periods has generally been …

ASRock heard you like AMD X670 mobos, so it turned a B650 into an X670 with an add-in card-

The quirky cats at Asrock have come up with another offbeat idea. Adding a second chipset to an AMD motherboard via a PCIe add-in card. Yup, really. The starting point is an ASRock B650 LiveMixer board to which a second AM5-spec chipset is added to the setup using an extra board adapter. Genius, right? Kinda.

Numerous caveats ensue, and ultimately this is a recipe for spending more money that you would have on the X670 motherboard in the first place, only to have the X670 chipset bit hobbled by the PCIe interface. But hold that thought.

As Level1Techs explain, the whole idea hinges on the fact that the AMD AM5 platform can support multiple chipsets either directly connected to the CPU or via daisychaining. That’s how it differentiates between X670 and B650 motherboards…

AMD admits its chips actually have gaming ‘parity’ with Intel’s 14th Gen, suggests lacklustre Ryzen 9000 performance could be because we’re not fiddling with Windows’ backend-

AMD’s new 9000-series CPUs have been underwhelming, performing only a little better than 7000-series chips yet costing a lot more at current prices. In what seems to me like passing the buck, AMD’s now given an explanation or two for why Zen 5 gaming performance might not have matched up to the company’s original projections.

In an blog post, AMD explains “why AMD-generated gaming data differs from reviewer data”, which originally showed a “9% average generational uplift in 1080p gaming versus Ryzen 7000 series, and an average of 6% higher performance across more than 30 games when compared against the competition’s best.”

Now, after changing its testing, it instead claims “parity in gaming” with Intel and a “5-8% improvement in gaming over the Ryzen 7000 series”.
